Princesses with Power Tools
An event to introduce young girls to engineering
Our first Princesses with Power Tools event on 2/22/20 (2 days after National Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day!) was a complete success! 14 girls got to meet the Gearbox Girls-turned princesses in a morning of engineering, excitement, and encouragement! Our second event, which happened 11/19/22, was also a success, with 13 girl getting to build bat houses! The girls from both events took home Power Tool Projects, custom tool belts, royal safety glasses, and a copy of our magazine, STEM Savvy. After polling the girls before and after the events, we noticed a dramatic increase in the girls' confidence with power tools. By exposing girls to engineering early, we are fighting the gender gap in STEM by inspiring an excitement about it in girls while they are young through this memorable event. We hope to host many more in the future!

Abbey, a former Gearbox Girl and "Paleontology Princess", inspired this event. Ever since she was a little girl, she was obsessed with STEM. From dressing up as Paleontology Princess to becoming a real engineer, Abbey is a perfect model of our goal for Princesses with Power Tools, which is to inspire young girls to feel creative, confident, and capable enough to pursue STEM. One thing we are sure of is if these girls feel the same way Abbey did at their age, they will take this opportunity and do amazing things with it!
